HPD MSI.TXT The Hourly Precipitation Data Master Station Index (HPD MSI) is the master station list of stations published in the NCDC’s Hourly Precipitation Data publication. This is a group of approximately 2850 NWS Cooperative Network sites. The file is sorted by CoOpNum. StnName 28 X(28) 014-041 Name of station, upper case may contain characters, numbers or symbols. If the station uses a shielded rain gage, positions 040 and 041 will contain a '/'. For example: Orleans RS // RegCenterNum 1 9 042 Number of the region in which the station is located. Location Right justified,padded with zeros, this field is subdivided into three parts: a)Lat 6 999999 088-093 a) Latitude in degrees, minutes, seconds. b)Lon 6 -99999 094-099 b) Longitude (with a fixed minus sign) in degrees, minutes,seconds. c)Elev 6 999999 100-105 c) Elevation (in feet). DrainageCode 2 XX 106-107 Currently unused. Within each state, each river drainage basin and each major body of water is assigned a numerical code by an alphabetical ordering of the station name. These codes were published in the HPD from 1951 - 1972. YearsOfRecord 3 999 108-110 Count of the years for which data are available for the station.
